Eclectic Shopping: Finding that Special Tube Cutter

Your Mobile, Alabama vacation plans are probably centered around exploring the bay and the historic civil war battlefields. But as dedicated shopaholics know, no vacation would be complete without taking some time out to do a little shopping. Whether you're interested in cashing in the massage gift certificates you got for your birthday or just picking up some souvenirs for your family back home, there's a shop in Mobile that has what you need. Use this guide to find out about some of our favorite places.

Antiques

The Mobile, Alabama area has been ranked among the top places in the nation for antique buying, so if you're in the market for retro bathroom furniture vanities you could easily spend your whole trip in the Cotton City Antique Mall. Open seven days a week, the antique mall is 12,000 square feet of historic items, some dating back to the Civil War and beyond. Another spot you'll want to hit is Mary Parker's antiques, where you'll find an eclectic mix of jewelry, clothes, tools, and more from around the world.

Malls

Mall shopping is something you can get almost anywhere in America, and as such is a comforting break from sifting through old horse fencing supplies in the antique shops. The Bel-Air Mall is Mobile's all rounder, with 130 stores ranging from department giants like Target to chain boutiques like Victoria's Secret. The Eastern Shore Center also has 100+ stores, but of the more upscale variety, and The Wharf adds activities such as bike riding and Ferris wheels to the shopping experience.

Specialty Stores

If you're in the market for something different, perhaps an elaborate tube cutter or a homemade sweater, you'd best head to Mobile's specialty shops. Holiday Place contains a collection of shops specializing in spa treatments, upscale clothes, decorative accessories, and tea the British way while Mardi Gras and More will help you get ready for the city's biggest party. Other shops in the downtown Mobile area specialize in everything from books to peanuts.

Some of you may be looking to get a deal on your wall mounted boiler or designer t-shirt, and we would recommend you head out to the Tanger Outlet Center in Foley, Alabama, just outside Mobile. There are 120 shops here where you can get up to 70% off brands like Nike, L.L. Bean, and Neiman Marcus. It's 40 miles out, but worth the drive in savings!
